low price! **
This
looks like a great opportunity for you to rush right down the ACME Auto
Dealership and buy that car you have been shopping around for!
What a deal!!
What a savings! The dealership is
selling cars below factory invoice! Wow!
But wait.what's with the
asterisk?
Hellooo fine
print.... **Rebates subject to change. Price subject to
change. Vehicle subject to prior sale. Only 1 available at ad price,
so you probably won't be the one we sell it to. We've included rebates
that you might not and probably don't qualify for. The interest rate
we show on this page.it's only for people with excellent
credit. You can't have both the rebates and this great
interest rate so the price we've posted...
...probably
doesn't apply to
YOU...
Details, details. All the fine print that tells you
this deal really IS too good to be true. You didn't really
believe that an automotive dealer was going to let you buy a car at a loss
to the dealership, did you?
These ads are designed
to get you in the door. It's an old
gimmick, but people still fall for it, so those dealerships keep using
this technique to trick you into coming to their dealership so their
trained negotiators can sell you some other car at a profit instead.
Even if you call to verify that the car is
till there.most salespeople are trained to tell
you "...yes it's here, come on down!" ...even if it
was sold 3 days ago!
These tactics clearly show that they are more
interested in tricking you into
coming in than giving you accurate information. I've
actually received calls from angry shoppers after
another dealership informed them that they MUST purchase a
warranty or finance with a particular lender at a high interest rate in
order to buy the "loss
leader"!
As soon as people realize Brien
Ford is different, they won't buy a
car anywhere else!
These practices unethical and
often illegal; but many dealerships still operate this way.
The dealership has priced the ad vehicle at a
loss, so they are determined to make a profit in other areas (interest
rate, warranties, insurance, aftermarket items) ~ at your
expense!
Commissioned salespeople are trained and
financially motivated to sell you any vehicle OTHER than the one you saw
in the ad.they are trained to say anything to keep you from buying the ad car.
- "It must be out on a test drive"
- "It just got sold"
- "It's out of gas"
- "I can't find the key"
If you start to hear these types of excuses,
you can bet your purchase isn't likely to go smooth and you are probably
not going home with a vehicle at the advertised price.
It's time to walk away.
Your time will be better spent doing some
pricing research on your own. Shop with a dealership that will respect
you, and share all the information about payments, interest rate, trade
value...without a commitment to buy.
To save
yourself a lot of hassle; here's the bottom line.
Don't rely on these colorful, full page ads
that are filled with flashy prices. If you try to buy an ad car, you may
